Activism history
Dana Beal
Beal is a central figure in the U.S. ibogaine underground and its decades of public advocacy for ibogaine as an addiction-interruption tool.
- Dana Beal is a longtime political activist who, through the group Cures-not-Wars, helped organize and publicize ibogaine as a proposed treatment for opioid dependence from the 1980s onward.
- He is frequently described in journalism and reference sources as an ibogaine activist rather than a researcher or clinician.
- His advocacy is part of the movement history around ibogaine, separate from the peer-reviewed evidence and the safety literature.
What this does not prove: Activist advocacy is not clinical evidence; his role in ibogaine history says nothing about whether ibogaine is safe or effective.

Search records →Modern-history figure
Norma Lotsof
Norma Lotsof helped carry Howard Lotsof's ibogaine work forward, including through the Dora Weiner Foundation, and belongs in modern advocacy history.
- Norma Lotsof worked alongside Howard Lotsof and is associated with the Dora Weiner Foundation, the vehicle connected to Howard Lotsof's patents and advocacy.
- She is a figure in ibogaine advocacy history, not a clinical-research source.
What this does not prove: Stewardship of an advocate's legacy is not evidence about ibogaine's safety or effectiveness.
MAPS memorial context for Howard Lotsof (secondary)
Search records →Guidelines and education
Global Ibogaine Therapy Alliance (GITA)
GITA is a widely cited source of ibogaine safety and clinical-guideline material that a safety-first reference should track.
- The Global Ibogaine Therapy Alliance (GITA) published Clinical Guidelines for Ibogaine-Assisted Treatment, a frequently cited document in ibogaine safety discussion.
- Those clinical guidelines emphasize cardiac screening, medical monitoring, exclusion criteria, and emergency readiness.
- IbogaBase describes GITA guidelines as source material, not as an IbogaBase-endorsed or IbogaBase-published protocol.
What this does not prove: Published guidelines are source material describing risk-management practice; they are not IbogaBase endorsement, not proof of efficacy, and not a protocol to follow.
GITA clinical guidelines (org statement)
Search records →Commercial development
atai Life Sciences
atai is a major psychedelic biotech whose ibogaine and noribogaine ventures shape the commercial and analog-development conversation.
- atai Life Sciences is a psychedelic biotech that, in January 2020, announced joint ventures with DemeRx to develop ibogaine and noribogaine for opioid use disorder.
- atai ibogaine activity is a commercial and drug-development signal within the wider psychedelic biotech field, not clinical proof.
- Business milestones and financing news are tracked separately from evidence and are not proof of effectiveness.
What this does not prove: Corporate investment, pipelines, and press releases do not establish clinical value, safety, or approval.
atai/DemeRx joint venture announcement (company release)
Search records →Analog development
Savant HWP
Savant HWP is central to the 18-MC development history in the ibogaine-analog lane.
- Savant HWP is the company associated with clinical-stage development of 18-MC (18-methoxycoronaridine), an ibogaine analog first characterized by Stanley Glick and Martin Kuehne.
- The Savant HWP 18-MC program is part of the analog-development history, distinct from ibogaine itself.
- Preclinical and early-stage analog work is not proof of human clinical benefit.
What this does not prove: Analog-development history does not make an analog interchangeable with iboga or ibogaine, and does not establish human efficacy.

Search records →Conservation and stewardship
Yann Guignon / Blessings of the Forest
Blessings of the Forest, associated with Yann Guignon, is a visible voice on Gabonese iboga conservation, cultivation, traceability, and benefit-sharing.
- Blessings of the Forest, a Gabon-focused initiative associated with Yann Guignon, works on iboga conservation, sustainable cultivation, traceability, and benefit-sharing.
- Its work is framed as conservation and stewardship, addressing wild-harvest pressure and access-and-benefit-sharing under the Nagoya Protocol.
- IbogaBase cites Blessings of the Forest as a conservation voice, not as a lineage or ceremonial authority.
What this does not prove: Conservation advocacy does not confer lineage authority and is not a claim about ceremonial knowledge or medical outcomes.
ICEERS Iboga community engagement report (secondary)
Search records →Conservation, sourcing, and benefit-sharing
Iboga accuracy depends on conservation and legal sourcing, not only clinical data. Public sources document wild-harvest pressure on Tabernanthe iboga in Gabon, cultivation efforts, and traceability of plant material from forest to product. Access-and-benefit-sharing under the Nagoya Protocol is the concrete legal instrument for Gabonese and community benefit, alongside conservation groups such as Blessings of the Forest. A "sustainable" or "ethical" sourcing label is a claim until traceability, current legal documentation, and benefit-sharing are shown.
Texas ibogaine funding, in primary-source terms
Texas Senate Bill 2308 (89th Legislature, 2025), authored by State Senator Tan Parker, directed a state-funded ibogaine clinical-research effort. In December 2025 the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), with UTHealth Houston, was awarded $50 million by the state to lead ibogaine clinical trials. A funding appropriation and a trial program are not FDA approval, not treatment access, and not proof of effectiveness.
Mid-century and historical sources
Ibogaine's commercial and pharmacological history predates modern research. A Tabernanthe extract was sold in France as Lambarene, and the company CIBA studied ibogaine and related alkaloids in the mid-twentieth century. These are historical commercial and pharmacology records, not evidence of modern safety or effectiveness.
Coverage and known gaps
Completeness is part of trust. IbogaBase tracks a fixed set of canonical topics across history, culture, safety, law, evidence, and media, and shows which are covered, thin, or still being sourced. Where a topic cannot yet be sourced to a strong record, it is held out of public copy rather than filled with plausible-sounding text.
required history, culture, safety, law, and media coverage
visible or searchable in the current site
known gaps or items needing stronger sources
public records indexed for search
This coverage audit is a reader-facing view of the same obligations tracked in the IbogaBase integrity report. It flags what has been checked and what is still wanted; it is not legal, medical, or cultural certification.
Wanted sources
These are the gaps that would most improve the public reference.
- Named medical reviewers: Cardiology, addiction medicine, emergency medicine, pharmacology, and psychiatry reviewers who are willing to be listed.
- Named cultural advisors: Gabonese, Bwiti/Bwete-linked, conservation, and stewardship advisors only when they consent to public naming.
- Adverse-event case material: Peer-reviewed case reports, agency records, and serious journalism with enough detail to separate signal from speculation.
- State-policy primary records: Bill text, fiscal notes, committee reports, hearing video, agency pages, and final signed law when available.
- Primary media links: Original podcast, YouTube, documentary, book, and interview pages rather than reposted summaries.
